Floor levelling in Groningen

In Groningen, homes from every period stand side by side. That means the subfloor differs everywhere too — and it is the subfloor that determines how we level, with which primer and how long it needs to dry.

We level as preparation for a floor we lay ourselves, but also as a separate job. Customers rated our levelling work 5 stars; one of them called us ‘transparent about pricing’.

Groningen in figures

Three situations in Groningen homes

Pre-war homes (28%)

Upper floors on wooden joists move. Ordinary levelling compound can crack on them, so a stable board layer is often needed first — or together we choose a floor that can be floated.

Apartments (61%)

There is usually a concrete or sand-cement screed, to which levelling compound bonds well after sanding and priming. Do watch the build-up height at front doors and balcony doors.

New builds (11%)

More than one in ten homes was built from 2015 onwards, such as in Meerstad. These often have anhydrite with underfloor heating. Residual moisture is then key: for PVC commonly a maximum of around 0.5 CM%, and around 0.3 CM% with underfloor heating.

How to prepare

  1. Discuss underfloor heatingHave underfloor heating? We agree in advance how it should be set during levelling and drying.
  2. Room empty and accessibleThe room must be empty and the compound must not be walked on for a while. In an apartment we plan together how you use your home during that time.
  3. Measure residual moistureWith a new build or a fresh screed we measure the residual moisture before continuing. Read how flat and dry a floor must be.

Ali helped us very well, neatly, quickly and kindly. It was not an easy job, as he first had to repair someone else’s work before he could start levelling. I definitely recommend Ali.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about floor levelling in Groningen

Can’t find your question? Feel free to send us a message on WhatsApp.

Can levelling compound go on an anhydrite floor?

Yes, provided the floor is dry enough and is first sanded and treated with the right primer. Anhydrite needs different preparation than a cement screed.

How thick will the levelling layer be?

That depends on the height differences. For a smooth base under PVC a few millimetres is often enough; larger differences need a thicker layer or a different product.

How long can I not walk on the floor?

Many compounds can be walked on carefully after a few hours. Before PVC can go down, a layer of around 3 mm often needs 24 to 48 hours, depending on the product and conditions.

What does floor levelling cost in Groningen?

Nationally, levelling costs on average €12.50 to €45 per m², depending on the subfloor (Werkspot price guide, 2026). After measuring up you receive a clear quote.
