Glued or click PVC: which suits you?

Both are PVC, both look great — but glued and click PVC are installed very differently. That affects noise, stability, preparation and price. Here is how to make the right choice.

Glued PVC floor in a long hallway

In short

  • Glued PVC is fully bonded to a level subfloor: thin, quiet and very stable.
  • Click PVC is floated with a click system on an underlay: quicker and comfortable.
  • With underfloor heating and in apartments, glued PVC is often preferred.
  • Already have a flat, dry subfloor? Then click PVC can limit the preparation.

What is glued PVC?

With glued PVC — also called dryback — every plank is fully bonded to the subfloor with adhesive. The planks are thin and flexible. Because the floor is bonded across the whole surface, it doesn’t sound hollow and hardly moves. Condition: a perfectly level subfloor.

What is click PVC?

Click PVC has a stiffer core with a click system along the edges. The planks are clicked together and floated on an underlay, without adhesive. That is quicker, and small irregularities are absorbed by the underlay.

When to choose which?

Choose glued PVC if…

  • you have or want underfloor heating;
  • you live in an apartment and want to limit impact noise;
  • you want a herringbone or other pattern that stays perfect for years;
  • you want the quietest and most stable floor.

Choose click PVC if…

  • your subfloor is already flat and dry;
  • you want the floor laid quickly;
  • you like a warm, soft feel underfoot;
  • you want to be able to make changes more easily later.

And herringbone?

Both types are available in herringbone. Glued herringbone is rock-solid and ideal with underfloor heating; click herringbone is quicker to install. Read more about the pattern in Herringbone or straight planks?

Our approach

We install both glued PVC and click PVC — including preparing the subfloor, skirting boards and finishing. In Bakkeveen, for example, we laid a click PVC floor and in Indijk a glued PVC floor, both rated 5 stars.

Can’t find your question? Feel free to send us a message on WhatsApp.

Is glued PVC better than click PVC?

Not necessarily better, but different. Glued PVC is quieter, more stable and ideal with underfloor heating; click PVC is quicker to install and can go on a flat existing subfloor. It depends on your situation.

Can click PVC be used with underfloor heating?

Often yes, provided the floor and the underlay are suitable. Always check the manufacturer’s specifications.

Which PVC is the quietest?

Glued PVC, because it is fully bonded and doesn’t sound hollow. With click PVC the underlay largely determines the sound.
